From here drive to the village of Vilanova de la Sal and follow the signs for the hermitage of Mare de Déu de Montalegre, parking just off the hairpin bend on the upper part of the ascent. Birds that can be seen between Vilanova and here include Orphean Warbler, Bonelli's Warbler, Subalpine Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Red Kite, Bee-eater, Cirl Bunting and Ortolan Bunting.

Mont Roig Mountains

Continue on foot along the base of the vertical rock wall. The views over the Ebro valley and beyond are spectacular, and the birds are pretty good too: Peregrine Falcon, Golden Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Short-toed Eagle, Blue Rock Thrush, Black Wheatear, Rock Sparrow, Red-billed Chough and Crag Martin are all regularly observed. Regular winter visitors include Wallcreeper and Alpine Accentor.

A visit to nearby Sant Llorenç de Montgai offers the possibility of encountering additional species like Bonelli's Eagle, Eagle Owl and Hawfinch (the latter in the winter months).
