Morera de Montsant Itinerary

  1. Starting point: Cornudella de Montsant
  2. Time: 3-5 hours depending on the walk.

Drive the 8 kilometres from Cornudella to Morera de Montsant, stopping and looking for birds such as Blue Rock Thrush, Golden Oriole, Bee-eater, Short-toed Eagle and Cirl Bunting on the way. Park in the village and follow on foot towards the rock faces.

Turn left at the first fork just out of the village, following the GR. Then decide if you want to take a longer walk to the Grau dels Barrots, or the shorter option to the Grau d'Agnet. If taking the latter follow the indication to the Grau de la Grallera and then to Grau de l'Agnet.

Birds that can be sen along this walk include Thekla Lark, Black Wheatear, Black-eared Wheatear, Alpine Swift, Bonelli's Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Rock Bunting, Rock Sparrow and Tawny Pipit. In the winter months Alpine Accentors and the occasional Wallcreeper visit the area.

An optional extension to this itinerary would be to drive to the ruins of Escala Dei and then on to Vilella Baixa, bearing in mind that the general area is a good one for Bonelli's Eagle
