Montson\u00eds<\/strong> is a tiny village that clings to a hillside on the edge of the rocky Montsec range<\/strong> in Lleida province, Catalonia<\/strong>. For many years now I have been guiding birders there to enjoy thrilling views of the resident Bonelli\u2019s Eagles<\/strong>*, and with great success.<\/em><\/p>\n ….after enjoying views of the eagles we can then all saunter along to Montson\u00eds itself, and have refreshments, a cup of tea or coffee perhaps, while admiring the village\u2019s cobbled streets<\/strong> and the distinguished castle<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n I was particularly concerned that something might happen to the Montson\u00eds eagles. \u00a0I\u2019m a conservationist, and I don\u2019t want the eagles to disappear, full-stop.<\/em><\/p>\n … the Montson\u00eds Bonelli\u2019s Eagles hadn\u2019t reared a chick successfully since 2005.<\/em><\/p>\n … it was in our hands to do something. So we recruited Ramon. With his regular walks from Montson\u00eds up to the \u201csacrificial stone\u201d we set in motion a supplementary feeding program with feral pigeons, caught from castles…<\/em><\/p>\n Our efforts bore their fruits. Ramon lost a few pounds, there are no more feral pigeons at Montson\u00eds or even nearby Montclar castle, and the local pair of Bonelli\u2019s Eagles raised a healthy chick<\/strong> for the first time in 6 years!<\/em><\/p>\n You can read the full story in the accompanying Pdf – just click on the link above.<\/strong><\/p>\n And the title of this post?
