Get some exercise, <strong>enjoy the landscape<\/strong>, tranquillity and wildlife, have a laugh and be left with the perfect excuse for enjoying a good meal in a local restaurant. If the sun beats down hard there is the shade of the <strong>gallery woodland<\/strong>, and you can always splash a bit more as you paddle along. Oh, and wear your swimming costume in case you overturn &#8211; as I did.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/canoemiravet2.jpg\" alt=\"Miravet and the River Ebro by canoe\" \/><\/p>\n<p>11 of us, ranging in age from 11 to a little over 50 paddled the 12 km between <strong>Miravet<\/strong> and <strong>Benifallet<\/strong>. The nature and adventure sports company <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beniemocions.cat\">Beniemocions<\/a><\/strong> based in Benifallet provided the canoes, the tuition, the guidance and also transported us to the river\u2019s edge. Thanks Beniemocions! We had a great time.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHere\u2019s the list of the birds I remember seeing along the river:<br \/>\n6 or more Squacco Herons<br \/>\n1 Purple Heron<br \/>\n2 Little Egrets<br \/>\n2 Kingfishers<br \/>\n3 Grey Wagtails<br \/>\n1 Short-toed Eagle<br \/>\nSeveral Golden Orioles (calling mostly)<br \/>\nSeveral Bee-eaters<br \/>\n1 Sardinian Warbler<\/p>\n<p>Combine all that activity with a visit to the <strong>village and castle of Miravet<\/strong>, the <strong>caves of Benifallet,<\/strong> a walk in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/sites-and-itineraries\/cardo-masif\/birding-in-cardo-masif.html\" title=\"Birding in the Card\u00f3 massif\"><strong>sierras of Card\u00f3<\/strong> <\/a>or P\u00e0ndols, an afternoon on the beach, or else somewhere nice and quiet to enjoy a <strong>well-deserved siesta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/canoesteve.jpg\" alt=\"Birding by canoe on the River Ebro\" \/><br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><em>Thanks to Ramon for the use of his photos!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 On a hot summer\u2019s day going canoeing with friends is not a bad idea.
