It&#8217;s a marvellous place for trekking among the most breathtaking high mountain scenery in the central <strong>Pyrenees<\/strong>: dozens of lakes, rugged peaks, pine clad valleys and slopes and gushing rivers.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/atotes-copy.jpg\" alt=\"A birder\u2019s view of Aig\u00fcestortes National Park\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are two main entrances into this National Park: one is via the Bo\u00ed valley in the west, with its World Heritage Romanic churches, and the other is via the village of Espot in the east. Last year Birdinginspain.com led a group for Naturetrek to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/sites-and-itineraries\/aiguestortes-national-park\/birding-in-aiguestortes-national-park-east.htm\" title=\"Aig\u00fcestortes East itinerary at Birdinginspain.com  \">Aig\u00fcestortes NP.<\/a><br \/>\nWe stayed at <strong>Roca Blanca, Espot<\/strong>. And what a great time we had!<\/p>\n<p>Black Woodpecker, Lammergeier, Capercaillie, Citril Finch, Ring Ouzel, Scops Owl (calling outside the hotel!), Dipper, Golden Eagle, Crested Tit, Crossbill, and even an <strong>Iberian Chiffchaff<\/strong> (the first possible breeding record for <strong>Catalonia<\/strong>!).
