{"id":299,"date":"2009-03-05T13:36:49","date_gmt":"2009-03-05T11:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/birds-in-spain\/some-fair-birding-in-extremadura\/"},"modified":"2009-03-05T13:36:49","modified_gmt":"2009-03-05T11:36:49","slug":"some-fair-birding-in-extremadura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/birds-in-spain\/some-fair-birding-in-extremadura\/","title":{"rendered":"Some Fair Birding in Extremadura"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 3rd Bird Fair in <strong>Extremadura<\/strong> was a good excuse for me to make the\u00a0long haul in my &#8220;trusty&#8221; white Rover from <strong>Lleida to C<\/strong>\u00e1ceres province for the last weekend in February.<\/p>\n<p>So it was <strong>not really a birding tr<\/strong>ip &#8211; I was not there to\u00a0make\u00a0a concerted effort to search for interesting birds, but rather to\u00a0check out a few new areas, to drive\u00a0back and forth from the fair, to take\u00a0some landscape shots, etc. Even so I still managed\u00a0to see a pretty good\u00a0selection of our feathered friends. Here is the roll of honour:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Imperial Eagle<\/strong> at Monfrag\u00fce<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/impeagle2.jpg\" alt=\"Imperial Eagle\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The Imperial Eagle is the one in the middle<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonelli&#8217;s Eagle<\/strong> &#8211; 2 soaring over the fair car park on Saturday<\/p>\n<p>Short-toed Eagle &#8211; the first of the year in Monfrag\u00fce<\/p>\n<p>Golden Eagle &#8211; 1 at close range in Monfrag\u00fce<\/p>\n<p><strong>Black-winged Kites<\/strong> &#8211; 5 different birds in one day, to the north of the park.<\/p>\n<p>Great Spotted Cuckoo &#8211; 1 noisy bird, another first of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Egyptian Vulture &#8211; 2 in Monfrag\u00fce, also my\u00a0first for 2009<\/p>\n<p>Black Vulture, Hawfinch, Azure-winged Magpie &#8211; relatively easy at various locations<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/awmag1.jpg\" alt=\"Azure-winged Magpie, Cyanopica cyanus, Rabilargo\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Azure-winged Magpies seem to\u00a0be very conspicuous at this time of the year<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spanish Sparrow<\/strong>&#8211; groups at 3 different sites<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/spansparrow.jpg\" alt=\"Spanish Sparrow, Passer hispaniolensis, Gorri\u00f3n moruno\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Spanish Sparrows &#8211; aren&#8217;t they cute?<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Black Stork &#8211; 1 at Monfrag\u00fce<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/bstork.jpg\" alt=\"Black Stork, Ciconia nigra, Cig\u00fce\u00f1a negra\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The timid Black Stork<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great Bustard<\/strong> &#8211; 7 or 8 on the plains near C\u00e1ceres<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 3rd Bird Fair in Extremadura was a good excuse for me to make the\u00a0long haul in my &#8220;trusty&#8221; white Rover from Lleida to C\u00e1ceres province for the last weekend in February.
