{"id":283,"date":"2009-02-17T12:31:30","date_gmt":"2009-02-17T10:31:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/photos-and-places\/lammergeierfest-in-northeast-spain\/"},"modified":"2009-02-17T12:31:30","modified_gmt":"2009-02-17T10:31:30","slug":"lammergeierfest-in-northeast-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/photos-and-places\/lammergeierfest-in-northeast-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"Lammergeierfest in northeast Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Franck Renard<\/strong> and <strong>Gerd Herren<\/strong> returned to <strong>Belgium<\/strong> last week closely guarding memory cards and tapes with the precious images of <strong>Lammergeiers, Griffon Vultures, Black Vultures<\/strong> and more that they had collected after three days in our <strong>Lammergeier hides<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully they both got home safe and sound and were very satisfied indeed with their results. <strong>Franck<\/strong> forwarded a small selection of his photos and has generously agreed to allow me to show them to the <strong>readers of the BirdingInSpain.com blog<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So here they are. Many thanks Franck!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/lammergeierfightfranck.jpg\" alt=\"Lammergeier attack in northeast Spain\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo by Franck Renard<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Immature Lammergeiers<\/strong> often emit noisy whines in the presence of <strong>adult Lammergeiers<\/strong> and harass and chase after them. Such aerial encounters are not uncommon.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/lammerflightfranck1.jpg\" alt=\"Adult Lammergeier in flight\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo by Franck Renard<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Adult Lammergeier, or <strong>Bearded Vulture<\/strong>. Some say that the word &#8220;Lammergeier&#8221; is inappropriate &#8211; they may be right, but is <strong>Bearded Vulture<\/strong> more so? Looking at the bird here doesn&#8217;t that thing dangling from its bill look much more like a &#8220;moustache&#8221; than a beard?<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/lammergeierfranck1.jpg\" alt=\"Lammergeier in snowstorm.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo by Franck Renard<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Franck and Gerd were really enjoying the <strong>photographic opportunity<\/strong> provided by the <strong>snowstorm<\/strong>.
