So &#8220;Blah!&#8221; is mostly images, and just a few words.<\/p>\n<p>The first &#8220;Blah!&#8221; post:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Birds in the Monegros<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/pool.jpg\" alt=\"Drinking pool in the Monegros, Spain\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Water in the <strong>Monegros<\/strong> used to be a precious thing. In the long hot summer it would look something like the above &#8211; a drinking pool.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/tracks.jpg\" alt=\"Monegros tracks: old and new\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oh, look! A <strong>sandgrouse<\/strong> track! But what&#8217;s that next to it? A euro? Perhaps we can follow its trail around the Monegros.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/3mill.jpg\" alt=\"European funding for transforming the remainig drylands in the Monegros\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3 million euros. Not bad for a start&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/11mill.jpg\" alt=\"European funding for transforming the remainig drylands in the Monegros\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s 12 million euros. That&#8217;s more like it!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/22mill.jpg\" alt=\"European funding for transforming the remainig drylands in the Monegros\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And there&#8217;s 22 million euros. Those pesky <strong>dryland birds<\/strong> won&#8217;t know what hit them!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/machines.jpg\" alt=\"Bulldozers in the Monegros\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thanks guys! Couldn&#8217;t do any of this without you!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/pipes.jpg\" alt=\"Irrigating the Monegros drylands\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sure signs that this is a humanitary mission. And that all those euros are being well spent.<\/p>\n<p>Now don&#8217;t get me wrong, I like nature. Flowers and birds are very pretty. But no-one&#8217;s going to get rich by trying to make sure that <strong>sandgrouse<\/strong> and <strong>bustards<\/strong> don&#8217;t go extinct, are they? Just how much money do you think you can scrounge off the European Union for <strong>biodiversity conservation<\/strong>?
