{"id":135,"date":"2008-06-23T19:14:30","date_gmt":"2008-06-23T17:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/birds-in-spain\/audouins-gull-first-for-navarra\/"},"modified":"2008-06-23T19:14:30","modified_gmt":"2008-06-23T17:14:30","slug":"audouins-gull-first-for-navarra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdinginspain.com\/blog\/birds-in-spain\/audouins-gull-first-for-navarra\/","title":{"rendered":"Audouin&#8217;s Gull: first for Navarra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday the 20th June Gorka Gorospe, Byron Palacios and myself observed an adult <strong>Audouin&#8217;s Gull<\/strong> at the <strong>Laguna de Pitillas<\/strong>, in the east of <strong>Navarra<\/strong>,\u00a0 in northern <strong>Spain<\/strong>.\u00a0 According to Gorka, a local birder and the brain behind the <strong>Birding Navarra<\/strong> initiative, the species had never before been recorded in the region. In other words it was a <strong>first for Navarra<\/strong>. Congratulations, Gorka (he spotted it first!).<\/p>\n<p>I should also say a thing or two about Pitillas itself. What a great birding site! It&#8217;s the largest and most important wetland site in <strong>Navarra<\/strong>, and just a stone&#8217;s throw from the semi-desert of the <strong>Bardenas Reales<\/strong> (that&#8217;s another story though). It has a reception area, a hide and marked trails and most important of all a lot of interesting birds. Apart from the Audouin&#8217;s Gull, which won&#8217;t be there when you visit, we also saw <strong>Bittern<\/strong>, <strong>Bearded Tit<\/strong>, 2 Ruddy Shelduck, <strong>Montagu&#8217;s Harrier<\/strong>, Red-crested Pochard, <strong>Calandra Lark<\/strong>, Short-toed Lark, <strong>Tawny Pipit<\/strong>, Little Ringed Plover, <strong>Bee-eater<\/strong>, Great Reed Warbler&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>And with the San Fermines approaching, need I say more?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday the 20th June Gorka Gorospe, Byron Palacios and myself observed an adult Audouin&#8217;s Gull at the Laguna de Pitillas, in the east of Navarra,\u00a0 in northern Spain.\u00a0 According to Gorka, a local birder and the brain behind the Birding Navarra initiative, the species had never before been recorded in the region.
