Hi Johan

They move around the area and have no specifically favourite sites between years. I recommend that you contract our guiding services for the morning to maximize your chances.

Next week we'll leave (from Holland) for a three month trip to Spain by camper visiting all major bird sites. Is it possible you send me the best place around Alfes for pin tailed sandgrouse. I would ber very grateful, thank you very much, Johan Schaerlaeckens

I too have seen a fair number of juvenile Spanish Imperial Eagles with a pale plumage. I would assume it's just part of the early stages of growth. But, I couldn't say for certain. Perhaps I was mistaken before, but I always felt sure!

From my experience I have noticed that juvenile Aquila adalberti are often very pale. I've actually seen one just yesterday in SE portugal which was almost as light as a tawny eagle, but was definitely an imperial eagle.
I wonder if there is any type of geographic variation within the Iberian Peninsula, or just a matter of random individual variation.

cheers

Dear Steve,

just to add to the Eleanora's falcon bat catcher (dark form) we were lucky to see another more multicoloured individual near La Donzell d'Urgell, on 25th July, in the early evening. There were two young goshawks crying out and playing on the breeze in our area too most of that week.

Earlier that day, from the comfort of our roof terrace in Ca la Nuria, Montclar, I saw great through the wing views of a party of three pallid swifts showing the contrast of dark outer primaries and larger white throat bib. They were probably passing through but who knows ?

During our two weeks plenty of short toed, golden and booted eagles and parties of black and red kites over the fields and woods below us. On our visit to Montsonis we saw two adult Egyptian vultures but the usual Bonellis were probably watching us from the shade.

Good to see you and Florinda at our Festa Major.

PS we think the newsletter is excellent.

Happy Birding.
